Former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess plans to launch a new mid-range electric tractor in 2027, designed for farmers and municipal services.
The new electric tractor is being developed by Diess E-Agrartechnik AG, a company based in Munich, Germany. According to the company’s plans, the machine will feature a swappable battery system, allowing continuous operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We want to quickly make our competitiveness available to as many farms as possible,” Diess stated.
In addition to the electric tractor, the company plans to develop and offer battery swap stations, charging infrastructure, electric agricultural attachments, and, in the future, autonomous agricultural machines designed to improve efficiency in farming operations.
Herbert Diess served as CEO of Volkswagen from 2018 to 2022. After leaving the German automotive giant, he shifted his focus toward the development of electric agricultural machinery through his new company.
According to Revija HAK, the goal of the project is to make the electric tractor competitive with traditional diesel-powered machines while reducing operating costs and improving energy efficiency.
